Indian Para-Swimmer Niranjan Mukundan expects a little more support from the government for the lives of para-athletes as well as to the sport.
In spite of competing at 2016 Rio Paralympics and other International Competitions, para athletes are still searching for fame and recognition.
Niranjan said, “Although the government has come forward with some exclusive schemes for para-athletes and is rewarding us with cash incentives as well as training, little more support would make wonders.”
He also said Speedo India is sponsoring the official Kit for the swim race.
Among his various achievements, Mukundan’s involvement has also been in non-swimming such as completing the Golden Quadrilateral by car in record time.
He completed 5,846 km journey in 124 hours and 52 minutes through Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata and was approved by India Book of Records under the 'Differently Abled to Cover the Golden Quadrilateral' category.
At the IWAS U-23 World Games in the Czech Republic Mukundan challenged the odds and won 8 medals
- 3 Gold medals in 200m Freestyle, 50 m Butterfly and 50 m Breaststroke
- 2 Silvers in 100 m Butterfly and 50 m Freestyle and
- 3 more medals in 100 m Freestyle, 100 m Backstroke and 100 m Breaststroke.
