Swadesh Mondal, the swimmer who startled the audience with his extraordinary performance in the recently held 44th Glenmark Junior National Aquatic Championship – 2017 in Pune, targets to participate in the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
Swadesh was awarded the Individual Championship in Group II Boys for striking 3 New National Records and scoring 35 points.
Currently training at SAI Glenmark TIDM Program, New Delhi, Swadesh has had a tough past before joining in Delhi. He underwent swim trainings in the muddy ponds of a rural village called Champahati, to which he walked to for two and a half kilometer every day.
Swadesh and his father chose to train at SAI New Delhi over Kolkata for better facilities. “Training here still feels unbelievable,” says the eighth standard lad who is pursuing his studies along with intensive swim training.
He added, “I have two dreams. One is to represent India in the Tokyo Olympics. The second one is to get a government job so that I can reform my small hut and ask father to stop working every day.”
