Golden Goggle Award 2018: Katie Ledecky & Ryan Murphy Honoured as Athlete of the Year

The Golden Goggle Award 2018 has been presented by USA Swimming to the greatest aquatic athletes for their finest performance during this year. The Ceremony was conducted at New York City in Times Square on 19th November 2018.

Here is a detailed list of 2016 Golden Goggle Award Winners

Female Athlete of the Year - Katie Ledecky

Achievements:

  • Won five Medals including 3 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze in the 2018 Pan Pacific Championships.
  • She has broken her own world record in the event of 1500m free at the TYR Pro Swim Series at Indianapolis with a time of 15:20.48
  • Won U.S. titles in the 200m, 400m and 800m free at the 2018 Phillips 66 National Championships and claimed the women’s overall TYR Pro Swim Series title
  • She paced Stanford to a second straight NCAA women’s team title with victories in the 500y and 1650y free

Male Athlete of the Year - Ryan Murphy

Achievements:

  • Won three gold including 100m and 200m backstroke and the 4x100m medley relay at the 2018 Pan Pacific Championships.
  • He clocked 51.94 in 100m Backstroke which was the third-fastest swim of all-time.
  • Murphy set Pan Pacs records in both 100m & 200m and was awarded Male Swimmer of the Championships 2018 Pan Pacific Championships
  • In the Phillips 66 National Championships he earned the 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke titles.

Breakout Performer of the Year - Michael Andrew

This award is given to the athlete whose performance(s) stand out in relation to other years, with special emphasis on the 2018 Pan Pacific Championships.

Perseverance Award - Micah Sumrall

This award is given to the athlete who came back from adversity, retirement, sickness, injury, etc., to have an outstanding performance(s) in 2018, with special emphasis on the 2018 Pan Pacific Championships.

Coach of the Year - Greg Meehan

This award is given to the coach whose athlete(s) performed at the highest level throughout the year, with special emphasis on the 2018 Pan Pacific Championships.

Relay Performance of the Year – Men’s 4x100m Medley Relay, 2018 Pan Pacs

This award is given to the best team relay performance, male or female. The performance considered must be a finals performance, with special emphasis on the 2018 Pan Pacific Championships.

Female Race of the Year - Kathleen Baker, 100 Back, 2018 Phillips 66 Nationals

This award is given to the female swimmer with the greatest single individual race of the year.

Male Race of the Year - Ryan Murphy, 100 Back, 2018 Pan Pacs

This award is given to the male swimmer with the greatest single individual race of the year, with special emphasis on the 2018 Pan Pacific Championships.
