Many intermediate to advanced swimmers feel their exhalation technique is perfect. But, that might not be true. It is very important to get your exhalation right so that you are balanced and relaxed while swimming which in turn helps you become an ace swimmer. When your face is in water, you should keep exhaling whether through your nose or mouth or through both. Many swimmers say they do this but generally they hold their breath at least for one stroke when underwater. Holding your breath will always tense you up while exhaling will make you feel relaxed.
