Sports Authority of India (SAI) has called for the suspension of the School Game Federation of India (SGFI) as the federation is responsible for the death of a 15-year-old girl footballer. Also, show causes notice to be issued to the Agra-based institution.
Nitisha Negi from Delhi who was part of the Indian contingent at the unsanctioned Pacific School Games in Adelaide last December. The games were neither recognised by the International School Sports Federation (ISSF) nor sanctioned by the sports ministry and SAI.
SGFI has sent the team to international games without any permission of the government of India as well as the ministry of youth affairs which is not the part of their Memorandum of Agreement (MoA).
SAI suggested that to avoid such mistakes in the future. No sports formations are allowed to send Indian contingent without the permission of the government and sports ministry. SAI added, NOC from the sports ministry is to be made mandatory for any sports federation for sending Indian team to international events.
