Swimmers from Karnataka to Perform in World University Games

Three swimmers from Karnataka, Poorva Kiran Shetye, Meenakshi VKR and Rakshith Shetty, students of Jain Group of Institutions (JGI) join the Indian Universities team to perform in the World University Games held at Gwangju, South Korea form 3rd to 14th July 2015.

“It will be a tough competition and we have to train hard as we will be competing with Olympic medal winners at the World University Games,” says Poorva during a felicitation programme conducted by JGI.

The swimming champs were awarded a cash prize of Rs 2.77 lakh for medal winning performances at All India Inter-University Meets. Poorva, Meenakshi and Rakshith were awarded a sum of Rs 1.60 lakh, Rs 80,000 and Rs 37,000 respectively.

Chenraj Jain, the director of JGI, promised to invest Rs 200 crore for 15 years to come, for enhancing the sporting infrastructure and providing opportunities to young generation sport-aspirants to train with ex-sportspersons.
